With the introduction of new refrigerant system which use R-407C and POE lubricants as its associates, it was utmost necessary to design and develop suction line accumulator as a system component taking into consideration pressure in comparison to R-22, ingress of moisture, refrigerant flow etc. with extensive computer modeling and confirmed by field test has developed a new clean dehydrated heavy duty vertical suction line accumulator. It has a hardened full copper 'U' tube instead of commonly used copper plated steel tube in which internal rusting was a common problem. Utmost care has been taken in designing this accumulator for years of trouble free service and as a life saver for the equipments as following factors has been taken into consideration 1) High pressure for strength and durability. 2) New refrigerant 3) Internal cleanliness of the vessel. 4) End caps have been given special design to stand high pressure and avoid any type of bulging due to sudden return of liquid refrigerant through the suction line under vibration thus acting as a suction muffler.

DESIGN FEATURES

suction line accumulator is one of the best defenses against excessive quantities of liquid refrigerant and oil from returning to the compressor, this is achieved with its exclusives unique inlet deflector design which permits downward tangential entry of the refrigerant fluid in the bottom of the accumulator.
In addition a special outlet 'U' tube bend design for which entrance is positioned behind the inlet which deflects the liquid past off center forcing a mix of the oil and refrigerant layers and restricting unwanted liquid refrigerant from entering and damaging the compressor.

Bottom of the 'U' tube is provided with a metering orifice matched to system a capacity which assures optimum liquid refrigerant and positive oil flow back to compressor at all rated condition.

The orifice again is protected with a monel strainer assembly of 50 X 60 mesh screen against foreign particles and contaminates affecting metering function.

A vent hole at the top of accumulator 'U' tube outlet acts as a vacuum break to prevent an accumulator that has flooded during an off cycle from slugging upon start up of the system.

Design for fitting and 'U' tube are matched to accumulator holding capacity and ability of the accumulator to perform without adding excessive pressure.
